"Africa is considered expensive for three main reasons: lack of infrastructure, complicated logistics and high staff to guest ratios. Add to these factors a tourism policy that promotes ‘high price-low density’ to protect fragile ecosystems from mass human traffic …….. and you have a fair picture of what influences the cost of an African safari.
Africa is a wonderful continent and those who love it find themselves returning time and again. Yes, it may be expensive compared to other destinations, but I think you would be hard pressed to find an African traveller who didn’t believe it was worth every penny."

Your guide is the most important factor in a good safari. He is teacher, host, driver, mechanic and friend. He has had years of experience in the bush; he knows the country -- the animals, birds, plants and people that you will see -- so intimately you will be amazed.
Alan has been a partner at Ker & Downey Safaris of Kenya since 1980. He has guided safaris since 1969, in most countries in Africa south of the Sahara, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, DRC, Central African Republic, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia. In all this time he has never done the same itinerary twice, preferring to specifically taylor-make each safari to his clients' requirements.

Luxury camping is all that the words imply.... a tented safari is carried out in the same style as the old traditional hunting safari, except with Alan the shooting is done with a camera. LODGE SAFARI
A "lodge safari" is sometimes more appropriate for travel during the rainy season, or when the party is small enough that camping prices are prohibitive. FLYING SAFARI
Flying in light aircraft is a way to cover some of the huge distances encountered on a safari more quickly; if you are short on time, flying from place to place can get you there quickly and will give your safari another dimension; only from the air can one truly realise the vast expanses Africa has to offer.
